November has been a very busy month. Performer event shoot, Family portrait session, and two High School Senior sessions. Three down and one to go! I imagine teens like to sleep in….at least I did when I was a teen. The Deemers were troopers when I told them I wanted to schedule their photo session at 7:30 am on Black Friday ( the day following Thanksgiving Day ). Any photographer will tell you the best time of day to shoot outdoor portraits is what we refer to as “the golden hour” when the sun starts to set. The early morning hours when the sun is rising is equally similar to the golden hour. Before the sun breaks the horizon there is wonderful ambient light to be found without seeking out shaded areas, and the morning colors can be just as brilliant as the late afternoon. What the teens didn’t know is I cut them some sleeping slack….I secretly wanted to start shooting at 6:45 am! On the other hand, the 7:30 start allowed me time to sneak out of the house without the risk of waking my own family up too early as well as stopping at Starbucks on the way to the shoot. Why attend the sporting event known as Black Friday and throw elbows with people you don’t know over a discount toy when you could be enjoying a wonderful early fall morning on a photo shoot with a tall Cafe Mocha?
Below are a few of my favorite shots.
